White River National Forest Plan Update

The Forest Plan for the White River National Forest is being revised. The deadline for commenting on this plan that spells out all uses that will be allowed on the Forest for the next 10 to 15 years has been extended to May 9, 2000.

The Forest Service's preferred alternative (Alternative D) in the Draft Plan restricts winter motorized recreation for the first time. The BSA supports this plan with some modifications, and we urge you to support this proposal by sending your comments ASAP.

Senator Ben Campbell (R, CO) is working with the motorized community to get the entire draft plan thrown out and the process restarted on the grounds that the process was closed to public input. Several recreation groups attended a hearing on February 23, 2000, in Washington, D.C., to dispel the myth that the process was closed to interested parties. The BSA sent a letter for the record of this hearing.
