Ambassador Program Iinitiated at Vail Pass
Based on comments forwarded from users, the separation of motorized/nonmotorized users at Vail Pass appears to be improving. However, problem areas persist at Ptarmigan Pass, Black Lakes Ridge, Shrine Bowl, and McAllister Gulch where much of the terrain is reserved for hybrid use. In speaking with the forest service, they say, they cannot be in all four places at once.
This year, an Ambassador Program was initiated to to add additional sets of eyes to help the forest service try to keep motorized and nonmotorized use separated, provide information to recreationists, and use radios to call rangers should issues arise. Approximately 10 Backcountry Snowsports Alliance volunteers participated, and most said they would do it again next year. This pilot year was helpful, and we hope to increase the number of participants next year and hopefully decrease infractions. Please contact us if you are interested in participating.
