Vail Pass: Public Input Requested

At a special public meeting March 17, 2004, the Forest Service presented more options for changing the management areas at Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area. Since the connector from Wilder Gulch to Searle Pass was closed to motorized use in January (see Vail Pass Task Force Update), the motorized community has been requesting new play areas and a route to the south side of Searle Pass, which is designated as a motorized area. The Forest Service presented six changes to the map, and two additional changes were suggested by participants at this meeting.

The Forest Service has asked the Task Force to discuss these new potential routes with constituents and return on May 12 with recommendations. The Backcountry Snowsports Alliance will present these alternatives at a meeting during the week of April 18-date and time to be determined. Please contact us if you would like to provide input. This is a time for your voice to be heard. Even if you can't make the meeting, call us to discuss your thoughts.
