Steamboat Springs Forms Local Chapter of the BSA
Leslie Lovejoy, a participant in the October Backcountry Workshop from Steamboat Springs has spearheaded efforts to form a Steamboat area chapter of the BSA. Encouraged by discussions with the BSA and others at the workshop, Leslie has begun to spread the word with backcountry skiers and the public. The Steamboat Pilot newspaper ran a front page article on the new group and Leslie has been invited to participate in the Routt County Trails Coalition, a group representing motorized and non-motorized users on trail planning efforts around Steamboat.
There has been a great deal of interest from locals who have expressed concern with growing snowmobile use and the need for a group to represent skiers and other human-powered recreationists. An initial meeting for the group was held on January 18 in Steamboat. A second meeting has been set for Sunday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Yampa Valley Electric Building. For more information, call Leslie at (970) 879-8710.
We congratulate Leslie for her hard work and look forward to the progress of the Steamboat Springs chapter!
