Should Snowmobiles Be Allowed In Yellowstone And Grand Teton?
On August 15, the National Park Service released its draft Winter Use Plan/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Highway in Wyoming. The preferred alternative for the EIS allows recreational snowmobile use in the parks to continue, including 180 miles of Yellowstone's roads. Many are recommending amending the preferred alternative to include a total prohibition on snowmobile activity throughout Yellowstone, Grand Teton and the J.D. Rockefeller Memorial Highway.
