Forest Planning Program
Next season, the BSA will begin participating in Travel Management Planning on National Forests in Colorado. We hope to ensure that there are quiet, non-motorized areas in which skiers, snowshoers, and other snow players can recreate. We will need your help as we approach the Forest Service-we'll need to know where you like to recreate so that we may present a picture to the land manager. If you live near any of the following forests and would like to share your thoughts, please contact us.
Forests working on revisions:
Grand Mesa, Gunnison, Uncompahgre
Pike, San Isabel
Note: These are included together as they are being worked on simultaneously.
Forests where we are involved in the travel management process:
White River, Rio Grande, Routt
The Arapaho/Roosevelt Forest completed their plan in 1997, but it is up for its 5-year review. Please let us know if you have thoughts on this forest as well.
Next fall the BSA will travel to each of the forests listed above and meet with interested parties concerning the planning issue. A detailed plan will be prepared this summer. We could really use your help on this project, so please contact us if you're available to help.
